HOUSE OF SCANDINAVIA

A Quick word with; Andres Moreno

One of the fastest-growing media sectors in recent years has been in podcasting. Sweden in particular has seen a huge leap in both listeners and productions, with over 1.8m people tuning in to a podcast every week. Britain, the US and Australia have also shown significant growth. Andres Moreno, who started podcasting company Storytelling, is heading to SXSW to make connections and find out the latest trends in the field.

Have you been to SXSW before?

Yes, several times, most recently last year.

What are your impressions of it?

SXSW is really interesting for us when it comes to storytelling and finding potential media outlets and partners in storytelling. You get to hear about the next big things, both as producers and consumers. It will be interesting for example to see developments in technology with hardware like smart speakers and voice-activated tech, which will likely have a knock-on effect for podcast producers and consumers.

How do you approach a convention like SXSW?

It’s key to have a plan so you go with some idea of what you want to achieve and at the same time be open. When I go to SXSW, for me it’s all about getting inspiration and knowledge.

What are you doing there this year?

Mainly networking of course, but also to see what else is out there. Meeting new people is always a benefit but SXSW is interesting because it gives us a chance to see what’s happening internationally. Ours is still a relatively new field, so it’s important for all of us to find allies all over the world.
