New-look cabin on long-haul flights

Next year, passengers traveling on SAS’s flights to New York, Chicago, Washington, San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo will travel more comfortably than in the past, thanks to the newly designed cabin.

Besides aesthetic changes in the cabin’s design – materials and color scheme that have been chosen to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere – there are also several functional upgrades that will make the trip an enjoyable experience.

“Our vision is to make life easier for Scandinavia’s frequent travelers. We are now making a big effort and upgrading the entire long-haul fleet, where both existing and new planes will have top-class new cabins designed to meet the needs of the frequent traveler,” says Eivind Roald, Executive Vice President at SAS.

“This long-haul investment will significantly strengthen our customer offering and increase our competitiveness. Customers will experience a completely new product that will make their travel more enjoyable and easy,” he adds.

All travel classes will get new seats. Business class passengers will get private seats with direct access to aisles and which can be fully reclined into flat beds. The bedding comes from Hästens, the Swedish premium-brand bed manufacturer, and the oldest one in the country. In SAS Go and SAS Plus, the new seats will be wider than in many competitors’ aircraft, and the seating has been designed with good storage space, which creates more personal space for the passengers.

Once the passengers are in their new, comfortable seats, they can enjoy using the new on-demand entertainment system, its large high-definition screens, and a wireless Internet network. Each seat will also have access to power and USB outlets.

The SAS long-haul fleet consists currently of seven Airbus A340 and four A330 aircraft. Four new Airbus A330 enhanced aircraft will be delivered in 2015 and 2016, and eight more Airbus A350-900s starting in 2018.
