Great coffee bars in Odense

Coffee as such is available here, there and everywhere in Denmark. But where can you find really good coffee, great accessories and the very best of Danish hygge in Odense? We went to the Danish city and discovered four favorites.

Velodrom

The aroma of fresh coffee drifts through the air as you approach, and once inside, you immediately appreciate that this is the coffee bar Odense has thirsted for. Few locations could be more ideally suited for the purpose than this preserved railway station building in the Fruens Bøge district dating from 1876, that you'll find in the wonderful forest area of the city. Kåre Loll has styled the station café on a 1950s modernistic theme, dark wood and plenty of Danish Rail original features. The coffee is spectacular, the cakes and pastries delicious and the music carefully selected.

Café Fleuri

The ultimate place for a coffee date with girlfriends is the organic Café Fleuri on Nørregade. This atmospheric café and deli is designed in a Franco-Nordic style with chandeliers, flea market finds, loads of candles, fine China and organic produce. Even the WCs are an aesthetic experience, while the courtyard offers a moment of Zen. The coffee is brewed with a sure hand using beans from a local roastery, the bread home-baked and the brunches healthy and delicious.

Nelle’s coffee & wine

It's early morning at Nelle’s on Overgade and the first freelancers of the day have already installed themselves by the window with open MacBooks and mocha, while mothers on maternity leave and other good people patiently wait to slake their coffee thirst. Nelle’s appeals to pretty much everyone with its welcoming, modern interior design, sustainable high-quality coffee and wine by the glass. There are now four Nelle's, all centrally located in Odense – including one in the Filosoffen art center close to the river and Munke Mose where they organize Saturday runs and morning yoga.

Themsens café og fristelser

You can meet mum, dad and daughter behind the antique counter in the idyllic, family-owned Themsens café. Here, you'll find Mother Themsen's home made preserves on the shelves, home baked cakes on display and simmering pans on Thursdays and Fridays. Themsens delivers on its promise: coffee and temptations. Naturally, the delicious coffee is organic and the service friendly. In short, if you have come to Denmark to find 'hygge', look no further.
