Who will be there

Ahead of the traditional late heavy-hitting additions, the 2019 SXSW speaker line up is once again already an impressive list, with major names from the tech, film and music world heading to Austin in March.

Here are a few of the confirmed names for keynote speakers:

Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom
Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom are the co-founders of Instagram, which, having been acquired by Facebook in 2012 now boasts a subscriber base of well over one billion worldwide. The pair will appear in what has become an annual must-see conversation with TechCrunch Editor-At-Large Josh Constine.

Priscilla Chan
Priscilla Chan is co-founder of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a philanthropic organization that she set up with her husband Mark Zuckerberg which aims to use technology to help solve some of the world’s problems, including disease eradication, education improvement and prison reform. Chan will present a speech about social and global impact.

Howard Schultz
Also talking on the subject of social and global impact will be Howard Schultz, who was one of the prime movers behind turning Starbucks into one of the world’s most recognized businesses. After 40 years-plus at Starbucks Schultz stepped down last year. He has written four books.

Margrethe Vestager
Margrethe VestagerMargrethe Vestager is EU Commissioner for Competition, having previously served as Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior and Minister for Education for Denmark. She was leader of the Danish Social Liberal Party from 2007-2014 and has also worked for the Danish Ministry of Finance. 

Joseph Lubin
Joseph Lubin is the founder of ConsenSys, a blockchain production studio that develops apps and utilities for the next generation decentralized web.

Bjarke Ingels
Named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME Magazine in 2016, Bjarke Ingels has designed and completed award-winning buildings globally. He founded Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in 2005 after co-founding PLOT Architects in 2001 and working at OMA in Rotterdam. Ingels has taught at Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, and Rice University and is an honorary professor at the Royal Academy of Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen.


Björn Ulvaeus
Björn Ulvaeus is a Swedish songwriter, producer and globally famous for his role in Abba as well as composing musicals including Chess, Kristina från Duvemåla, and Mamma Mia. Ulvaeus will appear alongside Niclas Molinder, CEO of Auddly the organization the pair co-founded with Max Martin and manager Ash Pournouri. Auddly is a global hub for authoritative pre-registration music metadata sourced from creators helping artists and managers get properly credited for their work.

Shirley Manson
Shirley Manson is lead vocalist of critically-acclaimed, alternative rock band Garbage. She has been an active song writer and recording artist for over 30 years, selling over 12 million records and now run their own independent record label, Stun Volume. Last year they released an autobiographical coffee-table book titled This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake.


Marti Noxon
Marti Noxon is one of the most prolific writer-producers in the US today. Her most recent projects include Sharp Objects for HBO and Dietland. She has also worked on high profile series including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men, Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters and Glee.
