4 great nightclubs in Scandinavia

Two of the world’s most important music clubs are pure music history. CBGB in New York City is no more. The Haçienda in Manchester, England, no longer exists. But there is still plenty of musical magic to make memories – in Scandinavia.

Vega, Copenhagen

Popular acts mixed with hip hop, metal, and hipster favorites – this scene offers it all. But people also come here for the architecture. The building was originally created for the labor movement by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1956, and it is famous for its functionalism in every detail.

Nefertiti, Gothenburg

This well-established Gothenburg jazz club is known to its closest friends by the nickname “Nef.” “Nefertiti” is also the name of a Miles Davis album recorded in 1967. Don’t worry about the jazz thing too much – the genre is interpreted in broadly, and more folksy tunes are mixed with hip hop and soul.

Dattera Til Hagen, Oslo

You’ll want to go there for the atmosphere and for the best of the American and European dance music acts. During the daytime it’s perfect for a burger or some tapas, but there is also room for impro-theater, if you have the courage to try it.

Debaser, Stockholm

This classic club hosts the up-and-coming as well as the edgy but established, both Swedish and international. Acts like Bob Dylan, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Bright Eyes, and Ryan Adams have all performed here. “Debaser” was the title of a Pixies song from 1989.

There's another Debaser club, "Debaser Hornstulls Strand", located at: Hornstulls Strand 4, Stockholm
