Style for men in Copenhagen

It has become fashionable to be stylish – even for men. More and more people are standing out from the crowd by dressing in a classical style; mastering old virtues such as tying a tie, fixing a bow tie, and wearing a proper suit. It’s all about class. Even on an ordinary weekday.

Good style is not about bling or mindlessly dressing from head to toe in designer gear. Good style is about finding something exquisite and original that complements the personality of the individual man. It’s about being quality conscious, enjoying the good life, and joining a timeless fraternity of barbers, men’s studies, cognac, cigars, and cuff links, with the addition of modern elements such as gourmet coffee, vintage watches, and rare vinyl records.

Beards and tattoos have also made a comeback as an important part of a man’s personal expression. Whether you opt for a mustache or a full beard, it is essential that you nourish it with care, ideally at a proper barbershop.

More and more places are springing up with a mission to pamper the inner gentleman. Here is our guide to style for men in Copenhagen:

Herrernes Magasin

Herrernes Magasin is a unique store dedicated to men’s style. The store inhabits atmospheric rooms that from 1938 to 2009 housed the C.A. Reitzel bookstore. The shop is full of gentleman’s accessories, such as bow ties, ties, and cuff links, galoshes, and exclusive suits; also available in daring designs with flowers and camouflage print. Here the customers are not customers but guests, and they take pride in serving each guest and making him feel at home. There is beer on tap and other drinks to help the mood along, and the store recently won the AOK award for best menswear store.

Men’s Room

At Denmark’s first skin care clinic for men, they know how to pamper and make a man look good without being feminine. Men’s Room offers deep cleansing facials, hair removal, massage, an old-fashioned shave using a brush and razor, a relaxing soak in a claw-foot bathtub, and foot massage in elegant surroundings on H.C. Andersens Boulevard. There’s now also a branch in Hellerup.

Barberen i Vognmagergade

This atmospheric barbershop has been at this address since 1937, and here you will be groomed, combed, and shaved by the book. A shave here involves an old-fashioned razor, shaving soap and brush, and you can sip absinthe or Fernet-Branca as you relax to the sounds of jazz. The interior is luxurious, with the original style spiced up with masculine pop culture icons such as Star Wars characters, superheroes, and soccer memorabilia. They are often full, and the barbers themselves are as stylish and masculine as they come. Once you’ve been here, that sleepy morning shave with an electric shaver will never feel the same again.

Han Kjøbenhavn

Next door to the barber in Vognmagergade is the stylish Han Kjøbenhavn. The store has its own collection, with everything from handmade boots to jeans, jackets, underpants, shirts, and glasses. They are also the sole distributors of foreign labels such as Nisus Hotel from Japan, The Brooklyn Circus from New York, and Kenton Sorenson’s handmade leather goods from America. There is also a selection of LEGO Architecture to delight man’s inner boy.
