Workouts with a difference

A new year means new opportunities. Why not start this one by trying out a new way to exercise? Here are some gyms around the world that offer something a little different.

Dance it off, London

The UK’s sassiest exercise option! Do you like burning calories while dancing? Do you want to dance like your favorite pop star? Then visit one of the many Seen On Screen studios in London. The dance classes are for complete beginners but taught by dancers who have worked with stars such as Rhianna, Taylor Swift, Janet Jackson and Tina Turner.

Extreme athletics, New York

Tone House claims to be the “first-ever extreme, athletic-based group fitness studio aimed at unleashing the inner athlete in everyone.” Sessions are team-oriented, competitive, fun and guarantee optimal fitness results. Tone House’s goal is to bring sports conditioning workouts to the mainstream and help individuals improve their mental and physical health to become better overall athletes and people.

Hot Pilates, Los Angeles

The workout gurus predict that hot Pilates will be the hottest workout trend (literally) of 2017. The signature one-hour hot class at this LA studio combines Pilates’ principles with heat and covers it all – toning, cardio and killer abs. The twenty-two full-body exercises will leave you feeling long, lengthened and toned. Expect to work hard. Expect a smaller waistline. And expect to get hot.

Public exposure, Tel Aviv

Many cities around the world are now providing free public workout facilities such as pull-up bars and bench presses, in outdoor municipal locations. At the Gordon Beach Gym in Tel Aviv, you can work up a sweat right on beach with the weather-resistant equipment that includes weight and rowing machines and stationary bicycles, and then cool off in the rolling waves straight after.
