10 fun free things to do with children in Copenhagen

It’s easy to take the family on a trip to the capital without breaking the bank. Here are 10 things you can do with the kids in Copenhagen – all for free.

The Children’s Museum at the National Museum

The National Museum has a fantastic section for children where they can play their way through history. There’s an old-fashioned classroom, a Pakistani shop, dressing up clothes, a Viking ship to play on, and much more. In the rest of the museum you’ll find cultural and historical artifacts from all over the world: from the Golden Horns to Russian icons and from Greenland kayaks to African masks.

Children’s libraries

Copenhagen’s children’s libraries are open to all, and as well as cozy reading corners and masses of books, they also have toys including dolls, cars, play kitchens, puzzles, medieval castles, dressing up clothes, and drawing implements, electronic music equipment, computers, and iPads. Free entertainment for at least a couple of hours.

Blegdamsremisen

The weather gods don’t always smile on Copenhagen, but that doesn’t have to stop you going to the playground. This 1,000m2 former tram depot has been transformed into an indoor playground with plenty of room to play whatever the weather. Children can explore aerial ropeways, a pirate ship, and a play landscape, and try their hand at table tennis, painting, drawing, clay modeling, and a nature workshop.

Flyvergrillen

Flyvergrillen at Kastrup is an ordinary grill bar in a very unusual location. Sat next to Copenhagen Airport, it’s famous for having the best view of the constant stream of planes landing and taking off, and has become something of a cult hang-out for airplane enthusiasts of all ages. Model airplanes hang from the ceiling and there’s a playground next door.
