Röhsska Museum

Gothenburg’s museum of design and craft has had a facelift and re-opened to the public in February. The permanent East Asian exhibition has been transformed so that early 20th century items from the region are now showcased side by side with contemporary Scandinavian design inspired by them. Another permanent exhibition takes the visitor on a design journey from 1800 until today.

Röda Sten Art Centre

This art center, housed in a renovated 1940s boiler house under the Älvsborg bridge, is a contemporary culture hotspot. The plant itself closed in 1957 and during the 80s and 90s, the building was used for raves and as a canvas for local graffiti artists. Their work still covers the walls today. Today, Röda Sten puts on art exhibitions, musical events and art walks. It’s a great destination to take kids, too.

The public sauna

Resembling a huge elephant rising in the midst of containers and cranes, this recycled steel clad building looks over the Frihamnen harbor. You might not guess it from the outside, but the innovative structure designed by German architecture firm Raumblabor Berlin houses a public sauna. Pay attention to the design details inside the sauna – the changing room walls were created using 12,000 recycled glass bottles.
