Opera for kids, opera for adults
Oslo’s stunning Opera House regularly puts on productions that are suitable for children. At Christmas for example, The Nutcracker is performed with children in the leading roles. Hansel and Gretel is playing in winter/spring 2019. German composer Engelbert Humperdinck based the opera on the original story and Richard Strauss conducted the first performance. The Opera House also runs a mini series that introduces very young children to opera and ballet. Children can join in to sing, play and appear as wicked trolls, swans, princes and princesses. Daycare centers and schools can also come on guided tours with auditions.
