Frankfurt hotels for every taste and budget

There's a plethora of hotels in Frankfurt, from refined heritage abodes with lush courtyards, to nice and simple options full of character. Here are seven recommendations across the spectrum.

Fit for a president

Set within a villa built in 1901, this five-star option is surrounded by its own lush grounds in a location near the south end of the river Main. Fresh from a recent facelift, the hotel's 163 rooms and suites bear the minimalist-luxe signature of Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki. Villa Kennedy is sought-after for its high-end spa and award-winning restaurant and bar, while its spacious courtyard is another asset. Renamed in honor of President John F. Kennedy's 1963 visit to the city, images of the big man and his glamorous contemporaries grace the walls (yes, Marilyn, too).

Denim den

Denim brand Levi's and the 25hours hotel group have joined forces to come up with a hip place to stay located within striking distance of the central station. The décor is fun and eclectic, mixing different zingy colors and textures. 76 rooms of various types (from size S to XL) spread across six floors, each with its own theme that helps tell the story of the classic denim brand. There's a rooftop terrace and a laid-back restaurant, Chez Ima, and for those wanting to explore Frankfurt on wheels, Mini cars and Schindelhauer bikes are available to rent.

A verdant welcome

Housed in a former tannery in leafy Sachsenhausen, this elegant boutique hotel was once the summerhouse of banker Johann Jakob Willemer - a close friend of the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Set on the river Main about 3km from the city center, this tranquil hotel has Frankfurt skyline views, a lush beer garden and a sought-after restaurant, headed by chef Jörg Ludwig and his team. The aesthetic of this hotel is best described as modern-lux, and each of the 19 rooms and suites has been designed with its own unique touches.

Moxy moments

One of Frankfurt's recent hotel openings in the industrial east end, Moxy landed near the new European Central Bank in October 2017. Targeting a slightly younger traveler, this mid-price hotel's décor is contemporary with dashes of color and quirky elements adding a sense of fun. Moxy is a Marriot off-shoot and this particular site has 220 rooms. A grab-and-go deli and a list of specialty cocktails are available 24/7.

Nice and Nizza

This homely, fuss-free hotel opened in 1993 to provide affordable accommodation for actors and artists. Today, it welcomes travelers of all professions who appreciate its character and city-center location near the river and central station. All 26 rooms have parquet flooring and are sparsely designed with a mix of modern and antique furniture. Communal areas include a billiard room and roof terrace with Frankfurt skyline views.

Purist pursuit

Stylistically clean and minimalist with an all-white color scheme, this design hotel is something of a media-set favorite. German artist Stefan Strumbel was called in to create a home-away-from-home, a sense that extends to the services - both the spa and the gym are open 24/7, and there's an open-air patio in which to hang out when the weather permits. And perhaps best of all, the "late riser" weekend breakfast is open until 1pm.

Jewel in the clouds

Located in the financial district, Jumeirah Frankfurt boasts all the facilities a corporate traveler would expect. But its excellent location and attention to detail means it also attracts general travelers with a high-end option in mind. Staying in this all-glass skyscraper will guarantee you sweeping views of the city, and tech enthusiasts will enjoy the body-heat detectors and motion sensors in the rooms. Staff are known for their highly attentive service, and we've been told the hotel's spa is one of the best in Frankfurt.
