Here are the best bars in Nerja

Unlike large parts of the Costa del Sol, Nerja is full of life all year round and the authentic Andalusian lifestyle is best experienced in the local bars in the town. Here are five recommendations if you're looking for tapas, flamenco and wine.

El Redondo

Evenings in the narrow, winding streets around Calle Almirante Ferrándiz and Calle Gloria are where street life is at its very best here, with lively conversations over drinks and its constant companion, tapas. A very popular favorite bar is the classic El Redondo, where the atmosphere is warm and the beer cold. From the round bar that has given the place its name, they serve the self-proclaimed best tapas in town and you are served one free with every drink ordered. If you’re still feeling peckish, head across the street to the bar's sister restaurant with the same name, which specializes in seafood.

Copa Vino

This Swedish-owned bar is a new addition to the Nerja scene and has rapidly become a favorite of both tourists and locals. Here you’ll find a huge choice of wines in all price brackets, that start from €6 per glass. Despite the name, Copa Vino is more than just a wine bar and also has an ambitious menu. The friendly service and a stylish but relaxed interior design theme where the artist's own paintings adorn the wall put the icing on the cake.

Rincón del Sol

Amidst a plethora of bars of varying quality along Burriana beach, the newly renovated Rincón del Sol is one of the better choices. Unlike most bars in Nerja, you don't come here for the food, which is relatively mediocre, but for the atmosphere. Thanks to its location at the far end of the beach, the bar offers spectacular views over the Mediterranean. Where better to watch the sun go down than in the lounge area here with a cocktail in your hand? If you prefer more privacy, the bar also rents out beach chairs.Address:Website:

Los Barriles

If you're looking for a “Cheers” type bar in Nerja, then Los Barriles, a family-owned bar with a friendly atmosphere would be top of the list where the clientèle are happy to talk to one and all. And there’s nothing wrong with the clean and fresh styling or the drinks for that matter. Plus, owner Rafa and his wife Mari Carmen serve very authentic tapas. You are offered a free tapas with every glass, or five when you order a bottle of wine. One menu favorite is their “chorizo inferno”, something of a spectacle in its own right as it's grilled at your table. Don’t miss the chance to take a closer look in the wine cellar.

El Burro Blanco

You haven’t experienced genuine Andalusia until you experience flamenco. Locals and true flamenco aficionados flock to El Burro Blanco to watch owner Daniel Romero and his female colleagues enchant the audience with their passionate dancing. Wine, beer and cocktails plus simpler dishes are served at the tables around the dance floor. At the end of the evening, the braver members of the audience are invited to join in the dancing and the locals show how to throw the right shapes. The first drink costs €6-8, which doubles as the entrance ticket to the show.
