Spa and nature experiences near Szczecin

Kilometer after kilometer of immaculate sandy beaches, a national park and plenty of spa and wellness centers. Does that sound like an exotic holiday paradise? It’s still Poland – no more than an hour outside of Szczecin.

Beach life is perhaps not the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Poland. However, the Baltic Sea coast has fantastic beaches, that, together with the sea and fresh air, have attracted holiday visitors for well over a century. The region has numerous spa hotels and wellness centers, that offer everything from healthy diets, exercise and asthma treatments to rejuvenation programs, massages and general rest and relaxation all year round.

Outside the bathing season, the beaches are popular for walking, Nordic walking, cycling and amber hunting, and the national park offers very special and unique nature experiences. Here are our recommendations for spa and nature visits near Szczecin.

Hiking in Wolinski Park Narodowy

Lace your hiking boots and head to the seaside resort of Miedzyzdroje and Wolin National Park, whose stunning landscape with towering cliffs, forests and sandy beaches offers breathtaking vantage points. The National Park has three different walking trails to choose from: a 15km Green Route, 19km Red route or the 26km Blue Route. You can also choose to walk just parts of each route – there are several short cuts along the way. You can also cycle, horseback ride or kayak in the National Park, that also boasts a nature museum, eagle sanctuary and bison reserve.

Amber hunting

Amber is known as Baltic Sea gold in this part of the world, and the resort of Kolobrzeg, about a one-hour drive from Szczecin, is the perfect place to go amber hunting. The 2km sandy beach has made the town the number one holiday resort in the region, and if you’re on the lookout for amber, the best time to come is between December and April. There are fewer tourists and locals out hunting then, and the big waves created by winter storms mean that many golden nuggets of amber are washed ashore.
