Stay at newly renovated top hotels in Vilnius
Radisson is the largest hotel chain in the Baltic region and includes the largest hotel in Lithuania, the Radisson Blu Lietuva, and a historic treasure, the Radisson Blu Royal Astorija, both of which have recently been expanded and undergone extensive renovation.
If you love hotels with history and charm, the Radisson Blu Royal Astorija ticks both boxes. Surrounded by baroque churches, luxury stores and charming cobbled streets, the Astorija boasts one of the best addresses in the city and, unsurprisingly, has accommodated royalty, presidents and rock stars.
The baroque revival architecture of this handsome five-star hotel dates from 1901, and has been the focal point of high society in the city for over a century and through many diverse regimes. The Astorija was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1994, along with the rest of the historic center of Vilnius. Very careful planning was required therefore when the hotel sought to expand upwards.
They were, however, able to successfully add a new penthouse floor with 6 rooms, which manages to blend in with the rest of the building pretty well, except for one simple detail. “We had to construct a new elevator to be able to reach the fifth floor,” says Zinaida Karpičienė, Director Sales & Marketing for Radisson Blu Royal Astorija, pointing to the modern, glazed elevator through which you can see the original, preserved stairway.
The new space in the hotel has been designed by a Swede, Johann Einarsson, from LWA Lundwall Architects, in a modern and relaxed style with pale wooden floors and a reading corner with easy chairs and rugs, that provide a homely touch. A fantastic bed guarantees a good night’s sleep and the bathrooms are modern, stylish and handsome. Other rooms have been given a more classic look with hardwood furniture, wall to wall carpets and a well-composed color scheme.
If you want to follow in the footsteps of George Bush, The Scorpions, Prince Charles and Swedish royalty, you should book The Presidential Suite, where you can enjoy discreet elegance, your own sauna, a flower filled balcony and breathtaking views of the old city.
The award-winning breakfast buffet includes eggs cooked in every manner, delicious sausages, heavy duty bread, local cheeses, pancakes, waffles, freshly squeezed juice and coffee to your heart's content. Find a table by the panorama windows and watch the morning sun rise above the Church of St. Casimir.
Skyscraper with sky bar
On the opposite side of the River Neris, that separates the old and the new city, is the modern four-star Radisson Blu Lietuva amidst the all glazing and steel business district. If you’ve come to Vilnius on business, you’ll find the city administration buildings, enterprise sector and shopping center on your doorstep, while the historic old city is no more than a 10-minute walk away.
The Blu Lietuva is the largest hotel in Lithuania with 456 rooms. With 17 meeting venues, the hotel is geared to host meetings and conferences from 20 to 1,200 delegates and can organize everything from board meetings to weddings.
The Blu Lietuva has recently opened a new lobby, a new extension and a new restaurant with panoramic views of the river. With the river walkway and green areas nearby, spectacular views over Vilnius and a state-of-the-art sky bar, the hotel is well worth a stay, and if don’t have to choose between business and pleasure, you can enjoy both here all in one place. A bit like the city itself.
