San Gregorio Beach
Beaches are what make this western coastline so breathtakingly beautiful. The first stop is San Gregorio State Beach – perfect for fresh air, an eye catching view, and maybe a dip in the ocean before the journey continues.
Duarte’s Tavern
Duarte’s Tavern in Pescadero is as local as it gets. Even the veggies and fish they serve are local and spiced in line with the Portuguese roots of the Duarte family.
We learned that the one thing to try here is their famous olallieberry pie. Our tip is to take time to also explore the town itself. Check out Norm’s Market and the cool old shops, and make sure to shop for antiques down the street, where you might just bump into Neil Young.
Well worth the small detour off Highway 1.

Monty's Log cabin
The scene in the film where the acting couple are chilling and playing pool together. Now you can have the same experience.
Forget your usual routine back home and experience the real thing: go hang out with the locals enjoying an after-work IPA on tap at Monty’s beautiful authentic log cabin.
Kill a few hours, have a few drinks and, of course, a game of pool. Be sure to say hello to Monty himself from us.

Andlöst vackra Big Sur
By the time we hit Big Sur we were already hit by the feeling that everybody should rent a car and do this trip with his or her boyfriend, girlfriend, partner, or family.
Big Sur is the name of the central coast of California where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. More specifically, it is the segment of Highway 1 from Carmel to San Simeon where you should have your camera ready at all times. Don’t miss the giant redwoods, the tallest trees on Earth, reaching more than 100m in height.
Glen Oaks
Glen Oaks is the most charming accommodation to be found in Big Sur. You can to stay in your own rustic and charming cottage with the forest just outside the house. If you want to be lulled to sleep by a babbling brook the Redwood Cabin and River View Suite is for you. Glen Oaks is a great place to visit weather you enjoy whale watching or trekking among the giant redwoods.
Pfeiffer Beach
If you only stop at one beach, Pfeiffer Beach should be your pick, at least if you ask some of the film crewmembers.
This beach simply has everything – beautiful water, stunning purple sand (from the manganese garnet), awesome rock formations, and a mystical forest crawling down toward the sandy beach. The drive to the beach is as beautiful as the beach itself.
Try to get here at sunrise. Even though mornings are cold, it’s worth it to stick it out and wait for the sun to roll over the hill. Capsule review: amazing!
