When in: Helsinki

Take a ride on the Number 6 green tram. It’s the best and cheapest way to see and experience the Finnish capital. Along the route you can jump off for some fine dining, shopping and even a sauna.

Classic Kaisaniemi

Just before the tram crosses the “Long Bridge” over to Kallio, you’ll see, in the park, the city’s oldest restaurant. Founded in 1827, Restaurant Kaisaniemi’s customers have included national poet Runeberg, composer Sibelius, and commander in chief President Mannerheim.

Sidestep to Emo

As the tram makes a stop at the main train station, walk two blocks towards Esplanadi and enter Emo, a Bib Gourmand restaurant founded by chefs who earned a Michelin star with their restaurant Olo. Emo is a great restaurant with a laid-back atmosphere.

Hit the right note

Right next to the classic 1912 market hall you’ll find Sävel, which hits the right note (pun intended, sävel is Finnish for “note”). The menu is varied with burgers and salads. But if you’re hungry, maybe go for the Wiener schnitzel XXL. Sävel also serves over 30 different beers.
