The best art, culture and food in Aalborg
North Jutland’s cultural and gastronomic treasure chest.
Culture for all
One building – endless culture
Nordkraft
Once Aalborg’s power station 1947–1999, Nordkraft is now a buzzing house of culture, with everything from finely curated exhibitions, a movie theater and stages, to delicious food and sports activities like climbing. There’s something here for all ages, in association with clubs, organizations and the city’s university and school of culture.
Danish architecture for all ages
Utzon Center
Situated idyllically on the shores of the Limfjord is Aalborg’s shimmering Utzon Center for design and architecture. Designed by acclaimed Danish architect Jørn Utzon – an icon in Danish design and perhaps best known for the Sydney Opera House. As well as architecture, art and design, the center also has a great space for the family’s youngest creative souls.
Unique street art scene
Aalborg street art
Denmark
If your visit to Aalborg coincides with some fine weather, take a tour of the street art, with more than 50 works signed by local and international artists.
North Jutland’s music mecca
Musikkens Hus
Another architectural gem is Musikkens Hus, a striking building of 20,000 square meters housing everything from concert halls to an excellent restaurant. Musikkens Hus is home to the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, but often hosts Danish and international guest artists.
Modern art in Finnish architecture
Kunsten
This Danish city of culture is also home to the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art. The amazing art collection is a sight to behold – and it’s the only museum outside of Finland to be designed by the world-famous architect Alvar Aalto.
Discover Aalborg’s gastro-scene
A gourmet experience
Tabu
If you’re looking for something very special, then Tabu is ideal for you – and it’s mentioned in the Guide Michelin. The establishment serves a modern menu of up to 14, 18 or even 22 courses, all meticulously prepared from international and local ingredients.
Small, authentic and charming
Rositas Bistro
Dining at Rositas Bistro requires a bit of planning so book your table well in advance, as it’s one of Aalborg’s most popular restaurants. And it’s easy to see why. The dishes are simple and well-prepared, and the space itself is warm with a buzzing atmosphere – just like an authentic French bistro should be.
Street food from around the world
The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse, a former furniture factory, brings together locals and visitors at the weekends to enjoy delicious, reasonably priced street food from around the world. A relaxed atmosphere, good music, and activities like karaoke, shuffleboard and pool make it easy to spend a whole evening here.
North Jutland – a nature experience
Aalborg’s cooling oasis
Vestre Fjordpark
Visit Aalborg on a hot sunny day and a visit to Vestre Fjordpark bathing spot is a must. It may be close to the city center, but this park by the clear, cooling waters of the Limfjord is a welcome oasis during the summer.
An outing to troll’s wood
Egholm
A five-minute ferry ride takes you from Aalborg to the small island of Egholm out in the Limfjord. With 605 hectares of mainly farmland, Egholm is a popular destination to discover beautiful nature and several vantage points by foot or bike. Since 2020 the island has also been home to Pil Tusindtunge, a large wooden troll designed by Copenhagen artist Thomas Dambo.
A natural paradise
Lindholm Fjordpark
Enjoy the beautiful nature of North Jutland in the greenery of Lindholm Fjordpark. As well as stunning views, there are many plant and animal species typical to the area, such as the short-eared owl and the rare early marsh orchid.
